Many of them have great carriers above ground, but choose to also play in the subway for the fun of it or for the exposure. I know this from following a blog of one of these subway musicians - http://www.sawlady.com/blog - there is lots of info and photos of the different musicians so you can recognize the ones you've seen. I am listening to "Crush It," as I write this. Found it through you, and downloaded via Audible.com today. My music school is three years old this month. Our goal is to create the most useful music education blog on the internet, creating value for anyone seeking to learn to play. I'm sure it will drive lots of awareness to our school, as well.
