We’ve been living in Chappaqua, New York for almost two years now. Since the moment we moved in we fell in love with the town, as well as the people. It’s proven to be a wonderful home to our daughter and since our home is in close proximity to the downtown area we’ve become friendly with most of the store owners. Last night I decided my gift would be to Kirk a local business owner. Kirk owns and operates Chappaqua Wine and Spirit Co. (pictured here). He recently moved his store location directly next door to his previous spot. They gutted the store, and build a gorgeous new store front. The inside is airy and bright, and he just did an all around great job. I buy wine from him often as I walk past the store 2 times a day on my way to and from the train. I decided my gift would be to actually TELL Kirk what a great job he had done, and how as residents of the town we appreciate the care he took in the renovation.
So last night I stopped in to tell him how impressed I am with the new store, and how my wife and I think it’s one of the prettiest stores in town. Instead of seeing Kirk, I met his sister Karen who apparently helps him out from time to time. I gave her the compliments to pass on to Kirk. She was thrilled!
Consciously giving these types of gifts feel amazing because it forces me to actually say the things I may be thinking but rarely share. I think Kirk will appreciate the compliment. His sister Karen seemed really happy to hear it as well. By the way…this pic was taken at 6:45am this morning and doesn’t do the store justice.
