The 64 day Challenge: Gift #53 Given on February 26th

by Chris Dessi on March 1, 2010

Today’s gift was actually two gifts …well two gift “attempts”… In a previous gift I attempted to help a woman with her baby carriage and baby. I thought it was really funny, and truly a New York moment when she declined my good will. Today I was heading to a meeting while crossing the sloppy snowy New York City street I saw a courier worker pushing a huge cart of boxes just beside me.  I looked at the sidewalk and noticed it would be difficult for the courier to jump the curb with his trolley without the boxes toppling over.  So I turned to him and asked if he needed help.  “Nah man, thanks…I got dis”….he was right.  He nailed it.  Slush and all…..bad ass courier guy ruled.  Than on my way out of the meeting…(once again through the slush and snow) I noticed a cabbie with a flat tire.  I walked past the poor guy changing the tire (as did about 100 other busy, cold and wet New Yorker’s)  I stopped, turned around and asked the guy if he needed help.  Now this one was a gem. The guy turned around beaming…I mean beaming he said with (what I think) was a middle eastern accent …and a HUGE smile ”oh no thank you sir, I’m just fine”….I slapped him on the shoulder and said “good luck”.

Two missed gifts = one gift in my book.  I think the “good will” was gift enough, don’t you?

I have been wanting to tell you this, so I guess is as good time as any. Do you realize the gift you give every time you blog for us? I’m always inspired. I’m just starting my second round of 29 gifts, but my gosh, 64???? Yes, I’m impressed and I accept the gift you give me of your blog. Thanks, Ellen

An act of good will is never wasted, even when it is declined.
