The 64 day Challenge: Gifts #54-#64 Given on February 27th- March 9th

by Chris Dessi on April 22, 2010

After a few weeks of being utterly buried in work, I’m back to complete my #64 day challenge.  Well, the Challenge itself is long completed, I documented the gifts on this small note pad – see photo…however I’ve just not found the time to enter them into my blog.  Apologies, but here’s a brief summary:

Gift #54 – Feb 27th

Making home movies is a hobby of mine.  I’d taken a bit longer than I would have liked in the creation of an epic film documenting the first year of my daughter’s life.  Once completed, I burned a copy and today gifted that copy to my parents.  We watched the tape, then watched it again….and again.   I love making these silly movies.  Huge amounts of labor….tons of reward.

Gift #55 – Feb 28th

My wife is a school teacher.  She gets huge discounts from Scholastic.  Today we donated some books to our daughters daycare via the points my wife earns on Scholastic.

Gift #56 – March 1st

Today I gave a tip to my sandwich guy.  He was extra nice, and I was feeling good!

Gift #57 – March 2nd

Today we had a huge Buddy Media event. A good friend of mine took the train into the city to attend.  I offered him a ride home, and enjoyed every minute of it.

Gift #58 – March 3rd

Two words: Foot Rub.  My wife is reaping some serious rewards with this challenge.

Gift #59 – March 4th

Donated $50 to my daughter’s daycare – Oaklane in Chappaqua, since we couldn’t make their fund raiser.

Gift #60 – March 5th

While walking to the train this evening I noticed a young woman looking very lost.  I stopped her and asked her if I could help.  She said I could, and asked for directions.  Very cool.

Gift #61 – March 6th

Today I took the time to offer a journal entry for my daughter Talia. I’d started this journal shortly after Talia was born, and had neglected a solid update for a while.  Today I offered a slew of updates.  Sometimes we forget how quickly she’s developing and growing. I hope she keeps this journal forever.

Gift #62 – March 7th

While leaving Rite Aid a gentleman was walking out with a slip of water bottles..I ran in front of him to hold the door.  He was very appreciative.

Gift #63 – March 8th

Today I purchased a book I love for a colleague that loves to read.  I’m not sure if he loved the book as much as I do, but he was certainly excited to receive a gift.

Gift #64 – March 9th

A few years ago, as a gift to my Mother I started a scholarship in my Grandfather’s name.  The scholarship has been awarded every year since to students at Mahopac High School that study music.  The students must be in academic good standing, be all around good kids, and want to continue the study of music in college. The best part of this scholarship is being able to stand in front of an auditorium of people and tell them how phenomenal my Grandfather was.  So my last gift, on my Grandfather’s birthday, during a challenge to honor of my father, is a donation to a  scholarship in my Grandfather’s name. Kind of nice how that worked out..  The sum is between me and the recipient.

As a brief aside, yesterday my Grandpa Dessi passed away. I think his passing triggered me to complete the updates on the gifts.

Celebrate life today.  Do something to challenge yourself today.  Take a chance today.  Push yourself today.  Say that one nice thing you’d been meaning to, but never got around to today. Hold the door, smile, give a little something today. It will change you. It will change the way you view the world, and the world views you.  Life’s just way too short to be otherwise.

Thanks for coming along with me on this journey. It’s been a blast

I love you Dad.
