F*ck Mediocrity

by Chris Dessi on November 8, 2009

Today I was thinking about how mediocrity is a disease that’s rampant in our society, and that chaps my Hide.  I’d bet that 9 out of 10 people that read that statement would agree. “Right on Chris”, “you tell em” – “mediocrity blows”….”go get em”…Then they would roll over on the couch, pop on Dancing with the Stars and enjoy their down time because they deserve it.

I say f*ck that.

F*ck Mediocrity

F*ck Mediocrity

I say F*ck mediocrity.

Being good at something doesn’t cut it anymore. The only thing that you should accept from yourself is to be f*cking Phenomenal.  I don’t mean doing something “extra” here and there. I mean being everywhere.  I mean feeling your business in your soul. I mean, eating sleeping, and breathing your business. Sure, you can get a cushy gig doing okay, in an okay work environment. But why not push yourself? Why not be the best? Why not be phenomenal? Why not apply for a gig at the best company that you can find in the industry that makes you salivate?  Why not push yourself daily to learn something new? Why not listen to audio-books if you hate reading?

I promise you that the minute you say F*ck Mediocrity, and truly wholeheartedly live that tenant you’re life will improve ten-fold.  Immediately.

The moment I turned down a higher paying job for an industry I love, at a company that I hunted down to work at, my life started to burn just a little bit brighter. Everything I did was supported with my true passion. I’ve never been more singularly focused in my life.  Do you think I could let myself get away with just being okay at this job?  F*CK NO.

I have to be the best, and absolutely, wholly and completely beat the sh*t out of anyone or anything that stands in my way (we’re speaking metaphorically here people – calm down ) :-)

Finally, I really do think that just doing an “okay job” isn’t only doing yourself an injustice, but I think that you’re doing an injustice to humanity. I don’t want to get to “heady” here, but I truly believe this.  It’s up to you to push yourself, and find out what will fulfill you. Once you do this you WILL be happier, and when you finally get off your a** and start to experience true happiness you will help to make the world a better place. Crazy right? So there it is…if you accept being mediocre than you’re not doing your part.  I think that s*cks. So get off your a**,  figure out what frosts your cookies – and have at it.

F*ck Mediocrity – do something great this week.  This time next week you’ll thank me for it. I promise.

Well, that’s it.  I feel better now.  Over and out.

Fantastic Rant! People get all to comfortable with doing the bare minimum. In school, at work, with their families, it spreads like cancer! We’ve only got one life to live (that I know of), there’s no time for sitting around and waiting on greatness to come to you.
